I understand: you want authentication moved from the Tasks/Mission Control section to the entire app, plus a Settings modal toggle to enable/disable login globally. I’m going to read the context file first, then inspect existing login/settings code so I can wire this cleanly.
Both dev processes had exited, so that’s why it failed. I’m starting them again right now and binding the app to 0.0.0.0 so your localhost and Tailscale URL both work.

test with agentbrowser
Running an agent-browser smoke test now against http://127.0.0.1:5173: I’ll validate load, nav switching, task board content, and capture a screenshot as proof.
The app port is down again, so I’ll restart both dev servers and re-run the agent-browser test immediately.
Servers are back up. I’m executing the full agent-browser smoke flow now and collecting pass/fail outputs.
Agent-browser test passed.

I’m using the senior-engineering skill for this change because it touches app-wide auth flow, state persistence, and UI integration across multiple views. I found a .context directory, so next I’m reading it and the Mission Control login/settings code paths.
Retested with agent-browser and captured a fresh screenshot.

I’ll fix this in three parts: restore reliable file loading/preview, simplify the left rail text, and add the archive toggle back in Settings. After that I’ll seed sample tasks into the DB so you can open/edit task detail cards immediately.
I found the root issue for the file panel: FileTree still uses a hardcoded plain fetch path and no fallback logic. I’m patching it to use resilient API fallback (same pattern as tasks), then I’ll simplify the left rail labels and restore the archive toggle in settings.
I’m implementing the reliability fix first: FileTree will now use API fallback candidates (including direct :3001 fallback), so the file list and document selection work even when proxy behavior is inconsistent.
Next I’m removing the extra left-rail wording/chips and wiring back the Archive-column setting in your main Settings modal (including persistence and runtime apply).
I’m also patching file open/save requests in App.tsx to use the same fallback strategy, so clicking a document reliably loads Markdown even if /api proxy path fails.
I’m adding a safe startup seed on the server side so sample editable tasks are always present (idempotent, no duplicates by name).
I’m adding a safe startup seed on the server side so sample editable tasks are always present (idempotent, no duplicates by name).
I’ve applied all requested code changes. I’m running build checks now, then I’ll restart the server (to apply sample-task seeding) and run agent-browser to verify: file selection works, context text is removed, archive toggle exists, and sample cards are clickable.
I’m running a focused browser verification now for your exact concerns: no “Context Rail” text clutter, file tree loads without fetch error, file click opens preview, archive toggle appears in Settings, and sample tasks exist.
One requested piece is still missing: task detail editing from card click. The sample cards are present, but we should confirm click opens detail and fields are editable; I’m running that check now and patching if needed.
Implemented and verified.

I’ll use the frontend-design skill and tune the actual shell to match the cleaner mock: fewer labels, tighter hierarchy, and calmer controls. First I’m opening your two screenshots to align precisely with what you’re seeing.

I’ll simplify the task detail panel itself now (the part in your screenshots): reduce visual noise, hide secondary controls, and tighten spacing/typography so it matches the cleaner minimal style. I’m inspecting the detail-panel markup/classes first, then I’ll add scoped style overrides.
I’m going to apply the frontend-design skill and then tighten the task detail panel UI to match your minimal direction. First step is to locate the detail panel markup/styles and confirm current app state before editing.

Using frontend-design now because this is a UI refinement pass; I’ll keep the existing visual language and reduce density in the task detail panel.
I found a monorepo with app/server/db/desktop/mobile packages. Next I’ll read the README and package configs to map architecture and run commands accurately.
I found the task detail component and will now adjust its layout/CSS directly in that module so the panel is cleaner without changing behavior.
Next I’ll make targeted detail-panel refinements (layout spacing, control alignment, metadata cleanup, and lower visual noise), then run it and capture a fresh screenshot so you can compare directly.
I’ve isolated the exact detail panel structure. I’m now applying CSS overrides in the app runtime (so behavior stays intact) and fixing the Created by undefined data fallback in the Mission Control source script.
I’ve applied the first pass of the UI cleanup and the Created by fallback fix. I’ll now run a build check and then validate with a fresh browser screenshot.

I’ve read the project context files. Next I’m tracing exactly where the current login overlay and settings modal are injected so I can move auth to an app-wide gate without breaking Mission Control behavior.

I’ll implement this in three parts: persistent sidebar collapse, a full Admin workspace mode with its own sidebar/content, and restoring the Mission Control insights row in the tasks view. I’m reading the current shell/task-board structure first so I can wire it without breaking your existing flows.
I found the likely cause of that 500 in the left rail: the side-panel task hook is pointed at mcApiBase, which can generate /api/api/... candidates. I’ll switch it to the normal API base and then proceed with the sidebar collapse/admin/insights work.
I’m now editing App.tsx to add persistent sidebar collapse state, an admin workspace mode, and a cleaner task-error fallback. After that I’ll wire insights visibility back into the board components.
Core wiring is in place. I’m running a build now to catch TypeScript/UI regressions, then I’ll open it in agent-browser and verify: 1) sidebar collapse persistence, 2) new Admin mode, and 3) insights row visibility in Ops.
Build passed and task view checks are good: insights is back and sidebar collapse persists after refresh. I’m now validating the new Admin view and capturing screenshots for you.
Everything is validated in browser now: no raw 500 text in the task rail, sidebar collapse persists, Admin mode switches layout/sidebar, and Insights is restored in Ops. I’m gathering the exact file/line references and screenshot paths for you now.
Implemented end-to-end.
Added persistent sidebar collapse/expand with a bottom icon button in the left rail.

I’ll restyle the Admin view now to match the app’s visual language: fewer panels, tighter hierarchy, and consistent typography/colors. First I’m checking your two screenshots so I can target exactly what feels off.
I’m treating this as a task-detail UI refactor (the screenshots are the detail panel), not just Admin. I’ll tighten that panel to match the app’s native style system: same accent color, simpler structure, and less visual clutter.

I found why the browser checks stalled: the app server on 5173 had stopped. I’m restarting the dev server now and then I’ll capture a fresh screenshot of the new compact/collapsible detail panel.
I’ve finished the compact/collapsible refactor in code and build is passing. I’m pulling exact file references now so you can test quickly on your side and I can iterate on anything still rough after your visual pass.

You’re right, that state is broken. I’m reverting the last “collapsible sections” pass and restoring the previous stable detail-panel implementation first, then I’ll verify the board is normal again before touching anything else.
I found the exact risky part and I’m removing it now: the DOM-rewriting collapsible-section logic. I’m restoring the previous stable behavior and CSS-only detail styling (no runtime node wrapping).
I’ve reverted the risky part and build is clean again. I’m doing a quick browser sanity check right now to confirm the board/layout is back to normal before you retest.

I’m implementing this safely: CSS-first minimal style plus a small, guarded enhancer that only restructures the task-detail panel (not the whole board). This avoids the global break you just hit.
Build succeeded. I’m now doing a visual verification pass on the live app to confirm the minimalist detail behavior (title + pills + description visible, rest behind ··· More, activity collapsed at bottom).
I’m now editing App.tsx to add the app-wide login gate and a global settings modal with persisted on/off login toggle, plus settings buttons in desktop/tablet/mobile headers.

If it's blocked then there'll be like a red like a text it through the outline or red box it's same size small but then you know red and then showing blocked and then if there is if the reason if it's blocked would show in the output right um so right now we have an output side that should be okay cool if anything is if there's a result it shows there whether that if a result is blocked then the reason is there. So you can remove the blocked text, you can remove the blocked yes. Reduce the width of the modal reduces by maybe like you know ten to twenty percent um the created and updated I think you can move them maybe either to the top or down and they're weird there the reason box remove it the output box and the output button for saving removing Also remove attachments, we don't need that fear. The follow-up button that is top you can bring it down and then instead of X for close you can write close the follow-up should be down Um you know as a button you know and then close will be on top where the X is

I’m now editing App.tsx to add the app-wide login gate and a global settings modal with persisted on/off login toggle, plus settings buttons in desktop/tablet/mobile headers.
I’m continuing from the current state and will finish the task-detail cleanup exactly to your latest spec. First I’ll inspect packages/app/src/hooks/useMCData.ts, then patch the remaining UI logic (due/model placement, blocked pill, follow-up placement, remove attachments/output editor), and run a build to verify.
I’ve located the current partial implementation and confirmed it still has legacy logic that conflicts with your latest layout request. Next I’m reading the rest of useMCData.ts and the frontend-design skill file, then I’ll patch only the detail-panel enhancer and styling.
I’ve added the shell-level auth/settings UI. Next I’m removing the Task-only Mission Control login overlay and patching MC runtime fetch auth endpoints so Tasks no longer owns login flow.
I’ve confirmed exactly where the remaining logic is conflicting. I’m now checking the source markup IDs so I can wire the blocked pill and follow-up relocation safely without brittle selectors.

I’m using the frontend-design skill for this pass so the detail panel stays minimal and visually consistent with the rest of Entity while we apply your exact interaction rules. I’m now patching useMCData.ts to complete the functional behavior changes.
I’m editing useMCData.ts now to finalize behavior: keep due/model in the top pill row, hide attachments and output editor, add a live blocked pill + blocked-reason output fallback, and move Follow-up into a lower action row while keeping Close at the top.

The patch is in place. I’m now doing a quick code pass for selector/logic mistakes and then running a build so we can verify it didn’t break runtime.
Build started successfully and is still running. I’m polling it now and then I’ll run a quick browser screenshot check.

I verified the code builds, but no frontend dev server is running right now. I’ll start both app/server dev processes and then run an agent-browser screenshot pass so you can visually confirm this exact state.
I’ve finished the code edits. I’ll run a frontend build now to verify TypeScript and confirm the updated auth/settings flow compiles cleanly.
I’ve got the code/build side clean. Next I’m running agent-browser against the live UI and capturing a fresh screenshot so you can verify the detail panel changes visually.
The screenshot I just captured is from the Files view, not the task-detail modal. I’m switching to Tasks, opening a card, and capturing the correct post-fix screenshot now.
The previous browser command hung without returning output. I’m rerunning in smaller steps and capturing the screenshot immediately after opening a task card.
